Been having issues ( see post http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=26705). Hopefully all I need is to have the hd replaced (which I can do myself), but I'd like to have the mobo and pcbs etc checked (and replaced) if neccessary.
Does anyone know of a place/person in Booklyn that is knowledgeable and not too expensive?
Thanks in advance...
Anyone know of any Brooklyn (NYC) repair / help?

Do you have an external HDD? If yes, then take out the HDD from your TP and replaced it with the new one and run your product recovery disks. And after that pray that the thing will boot from the HD. If the thing can run on it's own after the last product recovery Cd was taken out of the computer, then wait for a little while. Do not pin too high hopes yet. Wait till the restore system indicator showed you the progress bar is moving then after it runs for 10 minutes, i think it should be okay to boot on it's own from the HDD.
But if still cannot boot from the new HDD, then bring it down to the nearest service shop or IBM/Lenovo service centre and let the engineers or technicians do it.
All the best. I hoped that changing the HDD will boot up your lappy.
BTW: I got fresh memory about my R52 also cannot boot up because i bang my palm rest right above the HDD to vent my anger for hanging and locking up screens. No doubt it damaged my HDD. I think the shock impact had damaged the HDD.
*Best wishes and good luck to you* Try the swapping the HDD first before going to the service technicians.
