How many T30's have bad memory slot?
I recently purchased a T30 off ebay and it's due to be delivered any day now. While waiting I did a little research on this model. I should have done that before bidding. Too late now, but I wondered if any of you guys had an idea what percentage of the T30s have a bad memory slot?
I'd like to know. Of course that's the first thing I'll check when it arrives, so I can take advantage of the 7 day warranty to return it if necessary. I would never have known about the memory slot if it weren't for the posts on this site.
Thanks
Hazel

This was discussed earlier: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=13262
IBM TP T41p (1.7G/1GB/100GB-7k100/DVD-CDRW/SXGA+/BT)
IBM TP T22 (900/512/40/DVD/CDRW/14")
IBM TP A31 (1.8GHz/512MB/40GB/DVD-CDRW/15" SXGA)
For sale: n/a
WTB: n/a
Thanks for the link
However, I read that entire lo-o-o-ong post before posting my message here. I also read anything else I could find about the T30s. What I'd like to know and so far haven't found is what percentage of all T30s have the bad memory slot.
Does anyone have an idea on this? 50%? 25%? God forbid...90%?
Maybe there's no way of making a guess, but thought I'd ask, since this forum has so many techie-type knowledgable people. Thanks anyway, and I'll probably be asking more questions in the future. I'm a Mac person, but my son married into the dark side. The T30 is for my granddaughter's 16th birthday.
Thanks

as i recall, this problem was discovered early on in the T30 manufacturing cycle..
and those machines that had the bad slot would have been upgraded if they came into the service center..
so, it is anyone's guess as to the percentage..
my GUESS is a low percentage..
but then, no percentage is a good percentage if you happen to have one with the bad mem slot..

How many T30s have bad slot?
Your replies are helpful. Even if you're just guessing, it's a pretty educated guess. I'd say that I have a very good chance that my laptop is one of the "fixed" ones. It sounds like the first batch may have been bad and then the engineering fix was put in.
I know my chances of getting a bad one are the same as they were before I got this info, but I do feel better about my purchase. There's even a remote chance, I think, that it could have some part of the waranty left. Looking on the bright side, even if one slot is bad, the other could still (with the updated bios) read a gig of memory. I'm sure my granddaughter could limp along with that much. Even with some of the memory-hungry games she likes to play.
Thanks for chiming in, everyone. I appreciate all the input. I depend on these forums to keep me up to date with tech details. It's been 8-10 years since I built a pc (just for the fun of it) and I've not kept up with all the new technology.
