thinkpad t30 memory slot fix

#1 Post by hazel » Wed Jul 12, 2006 4:14 pm

Hi everyone,

I have another question. My T30 just arrived and I'm looking at the bottom to see if the memory slot problem is fixed. I remember reading about a "raised" portion of the cover, but I don't know what it looks like. The cover has a "raised" portion that covers the entire slot except for the screw. The raised part is only about 1/8 of an inch high.

Is this the "fix" that I've read about?

Thanks,

I think so. I see that on the T30's I get repaired. ... JD Hurst

Thanks, JD

I could start pulling the memory out and swapping it around, but I've not changed memory around in a while and this is a birthday gift for my granddaughter, so I'd just as soon not break it before I give it to her.

The non-fixed memory cover is all flat at the same level as it is at the screw. The "fixed" memory cover is flat for about 3/8 inch at the side where the screw is and then is raised "up" about 1/32 above the elevation of the portion along the screw side. The other three sides are at the same level as that where the screw is, but only about 1/8 inch in from the edge. So - the "raised" portion is everything but 3/8 inch at the screw edge and 1/32 inch segements at the other three sides.

t30 memory and pictures

Rrhody,

That was a great description! At least equal to a digi pic where the light is totally absorbed by the black laptop. ;-) I'm completely reassured with your description. That sounds/looks exactly like the cover on my memory compartment. I'm a writer and I just didn't do a good job of describing what I was looking at. Shame on me!

As long as I'm here I have another question. Windows Media player which I used to try out the dvd drive on a new dvd movie DOES NOT PLAY THE MOVIE SOUND. It plays the video. It may be a setting I'm overlooking, although I have gone through everything I can think of to make sure the sound is not muted. At least 3 or 4 places. I'm leaning toward needing an update of the driver. I downloaded a shareware dvd player and the sound came out fine on that one before it got to the spot where it wanted me to click on "buy". ;-)

Thanks
