T30 on the fritz!

#1 Post by DesolataX » Fri Jul 14, 2006 10:42 pm

Whenever I try to boot my T30, I am greeted with a black screen, and 8 beeps. The beeps go "Beep pause beep beep beep pause beep beep beep pause beep" If that helps any :D
It was manufactured in 09/02 according to the serial number sticker.
Supposedly, it does boot if you reset after the beeps, but since i am not the user of this thinkpad, I do not know... I suspect it is a ram problem, but am not certain right now.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

btw, this t30 has this little plastic "bubble" on the bottom, anyone know what it is for?

That is the 1-3-3-1 beep pattern for memory. Try reseating your ram, or if need be remove and use only one stick at a time, to see if one stick might have gone bad.

The plastic/rubber thing is the Active Thinkpad Protection, in case you set it down to hard on the table it senses the impact and the air inside the bubble resists the force of gravity. :D
