Upgrading T21 CPU to 1GHz
Oops!
Either I can't read MobileMeter, or I can't type. A re-check shows my idle temp to be around 38 to 41°C. Sorry 'bout that!

Ok this forum is getting large!
I have been doing some research about the 1gig chip, I really want to upgrade my T21.
There are different chip names like SL5TF, and SL5CH
Mobile Intel Pentium III 866MHz - M fru# 26P7999 N
Mobile Intel Pentium III 1.0GHz - M fru# 26P8122
Mobile Intel Pentium III 1.13GHz - M fru# 26P8082
Mobile Intel Pentium III 1.2GHz - M fru# 26P8005
I would like to know, what will work and what wont, can you go beyond the 1gig with a 1.2Ghz? Which 1Ghz processor works?
Thanks

I had the same question. I think I found the answer.
The SL53S is a 495 pin chip. There are no PIII's beyond 1.0GHz with the same number of pins. Thus, no fit.

upgrading the MOBO
How about putting a T22 MOBO in my T21 case, is that possible?

MOBO
How about the T23? they support up to a 1.2? is there anyway of hacking it into the laptop?
FWIW: The Micro-PGA2-package has 495 pins: seevlyne wrote:Below is my attempt at compiling a list 1Ghz CPUs for the T20/21/22 series from this site:

T21
What I did with my T21, was pull the bottom off of it and purchased a complete used T23 1.13Mhz from ebay, I had to "Trim" the plastic off the top left hand side of the T21 (Thats left as you face the screen)
It fit, I then added 1024Mb of PC133 RAM, and a 100Gb 7200 RPM Hdd.
Truth be told its more economical to just purchase a faster used one, but its not as fun, especially if you love to do stuff like this!
I use it all the time, I have some older games I play on it. But if you want a good package, purchase a used T30 they come with the Radeon 7500 Graphics Chip, even if only one RAM slot works, you can still put 1024Mb of Memory into it, plus the Bus Speed is faster.

Question about replacing a T21 Fan/Heatsink, with the T22 Fan/Heatsink, which per this thread is P/N 26P9254 / FRU 26P9317:
I have accomplished the 1.0 GHZ CPU change and like the improved performance in my T21 (800 MHZ). I just want to run it a little bit cooler, per NHC.
Can I use the original 4 screws which secure the T21 fan unit? Or need longer screws?
Do I need the "Tension Brace-Bracket" which goes under the 4 screws and sits on the T21 Fan unit? Is there a T22 Specific bracket, or will the T21 bracket fit?
Looking in Ebay, I see lots of T22 Fan units. Some show the "Bracket", and some do not. Some come with screws and some do not, leaving me with questions.
I appreciate any suggestions

George,
When I did mine, I bought just the fan assembly and reused the original bracket and 4 screws. Worked fine! The only thing I found I had to do was trim the plastic CRU Insulator with a pair of scissors so that it didn't touch the larger heatsink.

You're welcome. When you install the T22 fan, don't forget to properly clean the CPU & heatsink surfaces, and apply a fresh coat of quality heatsink compound (thermal grease) like Artic Silver. It makes a big difference in keeping the CPU running as cool as possible.
