T23 I just bought

#1 Post by rixter » Sun Aug 06, 2006 1:46 pm

Hey folks I just bought the below computer on Ebay. I did alot of research on it and it seems to be a great computer for what I do. Let me know of any problems you know of that are indicitive of the T23 model so I can get a heads up on any future repairs.

Sounds like an excellent machine. The only heads up that i can give you is to make sure that you use two hands with it, when lifting it. There is a potential for flexing of the system board and causing some of the inductors to break loose, requiring some soldering skill to repair. However, if you carefully lift it, especially while open, you shouldn't have a problem.

Also, after reading the listing, I'm not sure if this guy is trying to give you a copy of a retail version of XP, to work with the COA Key on the bottom...if so, it won't work with that key. You will most likely need the recovery disks, which can be found here for next to nothing.

Got the T23 today and I love it I have never had a laptop this slim and compact. It has the 1.2 PIII and 512 of ram, I read somewhere that you can go up to 1g of ram on the T23 is that true? Also it seems to be a little slow for a 1.2 I updated all the IBM drivers through the IBM auto update system and all the widows updates are current now any tios or hints to make it run a little faster?
Thanks,
Rick

Yes, it will go to 1gb of ram. You can also add a faster hard drive to speed up the mix.

Did this system already come with the OS installed, as if it had been used?

By the way, the processor that you have in there is a 1.2GHz Tualatin, and it has been known to run faster than a P4 1.6 processor.

Yes, it will take 2x512Mb modules. Part number (the one that you want) is KTM-TP133/512. Don't buy new. Buy in eBay, and don't pay more than $70 for each stick.

As far as the computer running a little slow, it might be the HD. The CPU is very capable as long as you don't try running Photoshop CS2 on it.

I would question the need for you to get 1 Gb of memory. What apps do you usually run? On the other hand, you would probably benefit more from putting a new hard drive on it.

Regards.

I just picked up one of the 512mb sticks for $50 shipped here in the forum.

If you want a faster hard drive, check with brentpresley, here in the forum for a good deal.

If you replace the hard drive, did you get the recovery disks from the Seller? If not, let me know...I can get you the appropriate set for your system.

It had a fresh XP install I had to enter the Key so I figure they installed it just before shipping. I am going to start shopping for Ram and HD. No recovery disk though I guess I will have to find one. Thanks for the help
