Replacing T22 system board
Replacing T22 system board
I am attempting to replace the system board on my T22 900mhz 2647-8EU and have a few questions:
How much should it cost to buy?
How much time might it take to strip and replace the parts?
Exactly what system board can I buy to replace it? The HMM says I need FRU: 26P8098
Is this flexible? I've had some trouble finding one on ebay--though I now see two-lots of ten. Don't really want to wait for them to trickle down.
Any thing I should be aware of that I might not think of before undertaking this project?
BTW: thanks, this board has been a real find for me and has solved a couple of problems.

I just recently went through this with a T20.
Rest assured it can be done by following the FRU removal steps in sequence in the HMM for your system. You will need a couple of small philips screwdrivers with good tips. It took me a couple of hours to complete the job. Having done it once, I would not be afraid at all to do it again. I expect now that I could do the job in less than an hour.
As far as getting a new systemboard, I found one on EBAY for $56.
Here is a link to the item I purchased:

You can read more information on my experience in the following thread:

I would check the CMOSS battery voltage first and make sure that it is not dead or below normal voltage first.
Hope this helps,
jj

i don't know about using a cup for the screws! sure you won't lose them, but you're going to have a heck of a time reaching in and guessing where each screw goes. take them out, set them aside, labeled to where they go.

You have three choices:
1) If your multimeter's leads are sharp enough, you can poke them onto the tiny wires at the end of the white connector.
2) If the leads are not pointy, then you can try slicing a slit on both sides of the battery or lift up the end opposite where the wires come out. I would not totally remove the yellow shrink wrap if you can avoid it.
3) If those two suggestions don't work, then go ahead and remove the tape but keep it so when you need a new battery, you know what the part number is.

Thanks for all the input.
I swapped out the system board yesterday in the course of a couple of hours. I was doing this because I thought my DIMM slots were bad.
The good news is that my old system board and DIMMS slots might still work, bad news is I have no idea what the heck is wrong with my two sticks of 256 ram which still don't seem to work.
Any suggestions would be *greatly* appreciated.
I have another thread going describing the problem. Don't know how to link to it, but you can search for Dersu...
About the system board swapout-- in case some one might benefit later on:
Armed with the appropriate printouts of the HMM, a couple small screwdrivers, plastic baggies, and some patience. It was easy, just take it real slow. I kept the screws and some parts in baggies labled with the corresponding HMM section. When I assembled it all I just grabed a baggie and the instructions. Also, in the HMM it describes all the screws dimensions--so if there is any doubt you can easily deduce say a 14.4 mm from a 4mm.
Contrary to what I"ve heard there are not that many screws and really only a couple of types. I even grouped a couple of the easy steps in the same bag when I realized I was being anal.
Be careful with the installation of the HDD, I was tired and forgot to keep the LCD cracked a bit. Of course the HDD housing didn't fit--leaving me to scratch my head. A cup of coffee later and a review of the HMM lead me to feel stupid for all of about 2 seconds.
