my T20 freezes up or gives me the blue screen of death

#1 Post by repke95 » Thu Aug 24, 2006 7:50 pm

Six months back I started experiencing random freezes. I have formatted the drive multiple times. I also ran tests on my hard drive and ram without any errors. I tried installing linx thinking I had a driver issue but Mephis quickly froze too. I bought new ram, which seemed to help at first. Next after reading a post on this forum I bought a replacement fan. Sadly, lockups continued so maybe the damage has already been done.

The lockups got to the point where I could not even get to the IBM startup screen. After leaving the t20 in the closet for a couple months I was able to boot up so I popped the hd into my t42 and reinstalled xp pro. It ran well for a couple days then crashed. Over the past week the crashes have become more frequent and I’m now back to a couple minutes at best before it freezes.

Computers are a hobby of mine but I have no real tech training. Am I missing something obvious? Is there any software you would recommend to help diagnose the problem?

Thanks your input, it is much appreciated.

Chris

If you have a miniPCI card (NIC/modem) installed, remove it and see what happens.
Do you get any error messages/codes?

Remove all removable hardware, the battery, modem, PCMCIA cards, CDROM, etc. And then boot..Also try 1 RAM module in each RAM slot. 1 of your RAM slots maybe bad.

Good Luck
1 T23 1.13 Mhz.SXGA+..512 RAM..Built in Wireless
1 T23 1.13 Mhz..256 RAM...
1 600e that now a 600x(500Mhz) with 256 RAM
1 600x(500 Mhz) with 327 Ram
1 600x upgraded to 600Mhz with 256 RAM
