56 watt adapter enough for a T23?
56 watt adapter enough for a T23?
I recently bought a used non working T23 that I was able to repair. It didn't have the AC adapter so I bought another one. However instead of it being the 72 watt adapter it's 56 watts. At first the system refused to run with the processor at full speed (1.13 Ghz) or charge the battery. However now all seems well. I did pull it apart again and found another inductor that was loose that I resoldered. Maybe that inductor was the reason? Aside from that, is the 56 watt adapter able to handle the T23? Thanks all.

Probably, but you may be stretching the capability of that power supply to provide enough current to run the laptop and charge the battery. Depending upon what and how much is spinning inside the latop (hard drive and optical drive), it may be drawing close to the rated spec of the system (4.5A on the bottom label). The 3.36A (56 watt) supply will try to keep up but may end up dropping the voltage below the 16V, which could cause instabilities in the laptop. In any event, it will be running hotter than normal, which is not good either.Kaervak wrote:Aside from that, is the 56 watt adapter able to handle the T23? Thanks all.
In short, it doesn't really cost that much more to get a 72W adapter over the 56W but it can prevent other troubles from occurring.

I would try getting a 72W adapter. If you try charging a battery and running the system at the same time, you might cause problems with the charging system.
EDIT: And yes, the inductor was most likely the problem. There are several threads that discuss this. I actually figured this out one day earlier this year when I removed a dead system board to find one of the inductors lying loose on the bottom tray. I posted pics of it, and since then, several people have fixed their systems by soldering the inductor back on, or just one of the sides that might have been loose.

Kinda thought the 56 watt wouldn't cut it. The seller I got it from is hopefully going to be able to get a 72 watt adapter to me in the next week or so. In all fairness I didn't list part numbers for the adapter, but if you're selling laptop gear, knowing what part works with what system is pretty important.
I had a similar thing happen with the inductors. When I finally figured out what was wrong and actually took a look at them, one of them fell off the motherboard when I touched it. Thankfully is was a pretty easy fix to get the system working again. Got a killer deal on my T23.
Thanks for the help guys.
