Turning down DVD-ROM noise?

#1 Post by BlueDevilTide » Tue Sep 12, 2006 10:11 am

Hi, my T23's DVD-ROM is way too loud. I hear of people turning it to "silent mode" in the Thinkpad Configuration Utility but I see no such option over there...how can I get it to quiet down?!

The DVD-ROM itself is a HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDR8081N.

Thanks!

If I'm not mistaken, it's part of the Battery MaxMiser/Power Management utility. Here's the link from IBM's site.

That should be what you need.

you can also change the setting in the BIOS.

note: if you've set BIOS to "silent mode" and battery maximiser ist set to "normal mode", the latter one will overwrite the BIOS setting.

please also note, that silent mode will mean a significant loss of data throughput from the drive. so nothing is for free...
