Overclocking !?

#1 Post by Berny » Thu Sep 21, 2006 3:18 pm

hello,

just a simple question: with tools like CPUFSB (use google to find more info) i was able to overclock the FSB on various desktops, sometimes up to 20%. the secret is to know which type of PLL is on the mobo.

my T23 has a FSB of 133 MHz. does anybody know which PLL is mounted on the mobo? has anybody successfully tried to overclock a mobile CPU? does it make sense at all????

I tried finding overclocking information for the T23 a while back, and didn't find anything. I did that just out of curiosity, and even if I had found it I might not have actually tried it. I just personally think it is not worth it to risk the integrity of your CPU/Motherboard, not to mention the increase in temperatures that it would entail just to run the laptop a mere 20% faster. It might be fun as a project for a spare T23 that you have laying around though (if overclocking information was available).

Bad, Bad idea. I wouldnt be so worried about the chipset and CPU as I would the video controller, audio controller, or anything that runs off the PCICLK (33mhz), as it would be run out of spec when the board is set to an unsupported FSB.

Dont do it. Youll kill the board.

thanks for your advice. i think you are right: a TP shouldn't be modified in such a way. and for my daily work the current "power" is more than sufficient.

btw: i did this on my desktop duron and it is working now like this for ages. i increases total clock from 950 to 1147 MHz by increasing the FSB. so at least for desktops it doesn't seem to do any harm to the system.

You can use Sisoft Sandra to detect the PLL type. It will be shown under Mainboard Information. However, it does not always work.
