Thinkpad T20 systemboard replace with T22 board problems

#1 Post by motero99 » Sun Sep 24, 2006 12:12 am

I just replaced the systemboard on my T20 with a board from a T22. At boot, I get an error of 1 long beep and 2 short beeps. According to the bios beep codes, this means a bad system board or video. The OS (Windows XP) then starts to boot. The Welcome screen looks fuzzy as if it is in VGA mode. As the desktop comes up, the system crashes. My guess is that the new systemboard is bad. Anyother ideas of something to try before I send it back? Bios is set to boot from LCD and AGP for monitor/video settings.

You could try booting in safe mode. This would show if you have a driver issue with XP. Safe mode uses only simple VGA drivers.

I presume you can into the bios ?? Does the level support XP ?? If not flash the latest level.

But after all the checking if the bios is still not happy before booting then you have a hardware problem of some sort.

Thank you. I will try safe mode, but both mobos use the same driver, so I do not think it is a driver issue. The bio is at level 1.11. Went to the Lenovo site and they do not have a bios posted, so I guess that is the only one for the T22.

The system board is defective.

Run it like that for a week or so and it will likely completely die. But first remove it and send it to whoever sold it to you.
