I just got gifted with a T22 (2647-8EU) and of course no manual. I am running Windows XP Professional. I went onto the Lenovo site but found no help. I figured out that the blue Fn + F4 puts the unit in standby. But there is F3 with an "X" and F7 with a little monitor I guess and F12 with a little processor icon. Do these just turn those items off and what is the X that is on F3?
So what is suggested to do throughout the day. I used to leave my PC on standby and acutally only reboot every few days. I thought that was good for the hard drive. Should I just leave a screensaver on during the day and put it in standby over night? So many options, I want to do what's best for the laptop. I am only using AC power adapter cord right not, so battery icon shows 100% power. Also, on the right hinge of my screen top there are three little icons that light up. Two are always lit, one looks like a battery and the third one is an arrow pointing right to an "X" What is this blasted "X" ??
Just last night I downloaded an update for the Hotkeys Utilities driver and now notice a neat little onscreen thing comes up when I use the volume up or down or the screen brightness hotkeys.
Thank you for any any help.
Does anyone know what all the Hotkeys on a T22 are..........

F3 turns the lcd screen off.
F7 switches between lcd and external monitor.
green icons are battery/power, the X one means there is an ultrabay drive installed (cd/dvd/2nd hd) , and the moon is for standby.
don't use a screen saver, just have the lcd turn off. unless you don't care about the life of the screen.
Read the FAQ on this site, it's there for you.

Thank you so much for your quick reply. I have been scouring Google for sites to find a description of those blue hotkeys to no avail. You have quickly cleared that up for me and also my question on what is best for power saving. Yes, I will turn the monitor off during the day and use standby at night.
I am thrilled to have found this site and will spend the next several days reading through all the postings. This is a treasure trove, truly. Thanks also for the .pdf of the hardware guide, I saved a copy.
I love this laptop

use hibernate when you'll be away for a while. it saves your current state to the hard drive so that you can quickly resume, but it is fully shut down so it doesn't need power. use standby when you'll only be away for a short while.
the T20-23 are great machines, as I have two of them. i've had much slower thinkpads, and one that was much faster and newer- but i think the T23 is the sweet spot for a basic use computer.
