t22 motherboard issues

#1 Post by motero99 » Mon Oct 16, 2006 4:10 pm

The motherboard on my T20 went bad. I bought a used MB for a T22. The first one would not boot to the OS. I got 1 long and 2 short beeps. I got a replacement and it will now boot to the OS. Here is the odd part. I get a boot error that the network connection for PXE is bad PXE-E05 Lan Adapter's configuration is corrupted, or has not been initialized, Boot Agent cannot continue. If I don't do anything, it boots into Win XP without a problem. If I go to the Bios and disable the network boot as an option, then I get the 1 long and 2 short beeps and it goes on to boot into the OS. Since I do not get the beep error if I don't try to change the bios config, I am thinking of letting it go, and not try to fix the error. On the otherhand, it is an annoyance and I know something is not working correctly. Does anyone have any thoughts on what is happening or why getting a boot error masks the error (1 long and 2 short means MB, video, or LCD). Could this mean the MB is bad or is there something I need to configure? The first used MB (IBM used/refurbished) I got from this vendor had the same LAN boot error and when disabled, the same beep code. The only difference is that this MB now boots to the OS.

beeping bios

In swapping the motherboards, did you reuse the network card? If so, it may be the culprit. Try taking it off anyway to see if the beeping goes away.

Try going to safe mode, this will disable many of the drivers and will let you see if it is hardware or software conflict.

Vlyne - You hit a bullseye. I took out the combo ethernet card and modem. and the error message went away. It is funny because the ethernet card works great. I did a little more investigation and saw that the modem side is not working. Somehow the modem part of the card is causing the error. I will try resetting the modem cable or if need be just ignoring the error as I have no need for the modem.

These cards and memory slots seem to be a problem in the T2's. I suspect it's either problems with the contacts (corrosion, looseness...) and/or, heat issues - at least in the case of the modem/network combo card which is under the CPU. You could try inserting and extracting the cables and the cards to try and clear up the contacts (cleaning with a rubber is normally recommended but the contacts may be too delicate for that). That's not going to help if the contacts are loose (due to overheated plastics or spring contacts that have lost their temper!) or the modem is dead. I'm glad you found the fairy. Guess you have a spare motherboard as well!
