t23 black screen

#1 Post by polityk » Sun Nov 12, 2006 2:51 pm

i thought that the battery is my only problem,
but today when I turned off my T23
and turned it on 30 min. later the screen remained black.
Only the backlight works, and the screen is black.
I tried the external monitor, and the system boots up correctly and everything is fine except th LCD.
I had no problems with the screen, the cable looks perfect, I even tried to open everything and touch the cable to find out if it's broken, but nothing changed on the screen.
it's either the screen, the cable or something else typical to T23's, but i have no Idea what...
any ideas ?

ok, I tried some colorfull images used for adjusting gamma, contrast etc. and the LCD reacts, but very slowly and just a bit.
when I displayed (using LCD and VGA out) blue, red, green, etc. stripes the LCD reacted after more than 15 seconds, but the image was very 'delicate' and dark. (the backlight works!).

From those descriptions I would guess that you have a problem with the LCD cable or the LCD panel itself. If you have a properly working backlight that means the signals and voltages to and from the inverter are good and that backlight (CCFL) in the panel is good. If your problem is ONLY with the pixel display on the LCD and the external VGA port IS working correctly on another monitor, then you would be right to suspect the cable or LCD.

Sometimes it's very hard to see anything wrong with the LCD cable. A tiny crack can be all that is needed to disable it. If you have not already removed the LCD panel from the lid and checked the end of the ribbon cable where it plugs into the panel, I would do that. It may be worth it to buy another cable to see if that fixes the problem. They are fairly cheap. The other end of the price range is buying an entire lid assembly (LCD, cable, lid, latches, hinges, etc.) and exchanging it with your existing display.

Use a torchlight and shine it on the thinkpad LCD with the thinkpad switched on.
