T23 - 3 things I don't know abou it... anyone knows them ?

#1 Post by polityk » Mon Nov 13, 2006 4:52 am

As written in the subject...

1)
The connector on the top of the LCD, under a rubber cover.
Once I saw a bluetooth adapter tha would fit there, but only once and it was 4 times as expensive as a USB one....
Is it a serial port ? usb ? or some kind of IBM's invention ?
What can i use it for ?

2)
Another questions are:
What does the "thinkpad" button do in T23 ?

3)
What could be connected near HDD bay ?
Maybe a card reader ?
In front of the latop there is a cover and on the mobo there is a 2 pin connector there.

Your questions:

1). The connector on the top LCD, its a connector for Ultraport II devices such as webcam and bluetooth devices designed by IBM. That kinda device would cost a bomb!

2). The thinkpad button its a 'help feature' programmed by IBM to help DUMMY users. One touch button will enable user to access list of basic know hows of your thinkpad. However you need to get it installed from IBM website in order to run it.

3). I have no idea on this........
-Thinkpad T23 1.2Ghz (2647-4RG) with Docking Station (2631)
-512MB RAM
-60GB Western Digital HDD
-3Com X-Jack Wireless A/B/G
-Imation External Combo DVD/CDRW
-Windows XP Pro SP2
-External 160GB Maxtor HDD

As for the first one i thought that it's expensive...
What a pity, that it's not USB :(
So the last one is a big mystery :P

(3) I think is for the so-called Asset ID RF Adapter. I'm gonna need it if my collection of Thinkpad continues to grow :)

Its actually sort of an USB connectors. A certain modification then perhaps......you can use as USB connectors. No guts to do it.

As the name says, the ID Adapter allows you to identify (via radio frequency) and track your laptop assets. And yes, polityk, there's an EEPROM involved (now we'll not hear the end of this thread  ). Apparently you can even track the laptop when it's powered down.
