T21 Blank screen on OS bootup

#1 Post by mc57shp » Tue Nov 14, 2006 3:28 pm

I have a T21 and when I turn it on the screen works fine while Windows 2000 is loading, but as soon as the desktop is about to load the screen goes black. If I press Fn + F7 the screen comes back.

I have updated all of the video drivers and I have also tried changing the BIOS so that the LCD is the only available monitor output and neither have worked.

Please help!

What do you see when you go to Display Properties?

Control Panel --> Display --> Settings tab
The drop down menu shows 1 or 2 as the default?

Also, in System Properties, Hardware, Device Manager...
how many entries do you have under "Monitors" branch?

Go to Device Manager, expand the Monitors branch, and delete all displays *except* the ThinkPad LCD monitor, reboot. Let's see how it works. Fingers x'ed. (The system, upon reboot, should install those "virtual" monitors but make the ThinkPad LCD the default)
