#1 Post by dstalte » Wed Nov 15, 2006 11:22 pm

I tried a 1 gig on T20 and no boot but it was a SL5CH. and 478 pin
Maybe it was the wrong cpu?

I'm currently selling an SL5CH in the marketplace, and it does not work in the T20, T21 or T22.

The SL5CH runs at 133Mhz FSB, but the T20 only supports 100Mhz.

The SL5TF is your best choice for a T20. It supports SpeedStep at 1Ghz, and conforms to the proper socket type (Micro-PGA2).
The Slim Jim T20..1Ghz..512MB..40GB

Thanks Johnnym , I already found one in singapore for $45.00 and $16 shipping. I ordered it. Everyone else want like $150 for it!
Also I'm boosting it to 512 megs of ram. I get a brand new cooling fan from a t22 in it already. I am ready to go..

Is the fan up to cooling the CPU at maximum load? I'm a bit disappointed with my T21 fan which cuts in at about 80C but it will kick it down to 60-50C or so and then yo-yo back up to 80C. All that thermal stress can't be good for the CPU.

I have a T22 fan but no software to measure the temp on cpu. I will have to search to find such a thing. Also what program or app puts the max load ? I guess video rendering or something like that..
Now I'm worried...

MobileMeter can be download from here. Ignore all of the Japanese characters and just click on the second link on the page (..../mm0310.zip).

Definitely, yes. Video rendering caused my T23's CPU to hit the mid-to-upper 70s.

I did a quick search and came across an old thread on the subject: T20 CPU Upgrade

If you have the T22 fan, it may be OK but the 1GHz CPU may not be stressed to the max because of other limitations. The consensus seems to be that an upgrade to a T23 is a better option.

OK Here it is at 99 % cpu usage it went from 40 c to 80 c and then back down to 74c . Been runing for about 20 min now.Hard drive is 43c.
Do you think it will be alright? :?

Looks good! That chip should be rated to over 90C. The 80C is about the upper limit at which the fan kicks in so if it manages to keep the chip below that mark at full blast it's OK.

No worries!! Roasting some English cricketers down here at the moment! I'd leave the mobile monitor on as a sticky icon. It's a bit clunky but provides useful information. My HD for instance is regularly going up to 58C and beginning to get noisier so the clear warning is there for me to get a new HD. I just wish we could have a better fan control program for the T2* series.
Cheers
