I have fixed now a T22 and a T20 which works fine.
Just installed XP, installed the right drivers etc.
As these are my first IBM's, I like to know how the harddisk can be setup as they would leave the factory. Means, all special buttons working and doing what they should do.
I read that there is normally an invisible service partition on the harddisk. How to get that back? I have installed new harddisks in them, the original was not supplied with the defective notebooks.
Also read on this forum that special recovery disks exists do install all from scratch. If I manage to get the recovery disks/CD for these 2 machines, will it install XP, Win2000 or Windows 98?
If recovery will not install XP, is it possible to have XP installed AND the service partition manually?
Does anyone have the Recovery disks/CD and like to share with me/sell to me?
Please guide me to get this done:
- Service partition installed and what all what belongs in there
- All special buttons working
- XP as operating system
- recovery for XP operating system
I'm sure someone must have done this before...
Thanks, Msmax

The T20/22 did not come with Windows XP. They came with 95, NT, 98 or 2000.
You can install plain XP, Go to www.ibm.com and get the software installer and it will get all the IBM specific programs you need and install them for you.
Here is a document that may help: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-39961
Then you could make a Ghost or Acronis image for a restore cd.
Possibly you might be able to use T23 recovery cd's, they could come with Windows XP but they might not have all the correct drivers.
Keep in mind that you would need to provide a valid COA sticker on each laptop for whatever OS you install.

Thanks for your help.
Does it mean that the T20/22 machines did not have a service partition? I installed XP and all drivers already.
If there is no original recovery disks for XP then I will forget the service partition and original recovery disks.
I will read the document and try the software installer just to see what is added.
