Dead T21 Suspect Parts

#1 Post by vlyne » Wed Nov 29, 2006 6:13 am

Yet again I had a go at trying to find the culprits responsible for a dead T21. Two parts that are suspect are:

1. A rectangular two-legged part with markings:

10.000
KDS 9M
INDONESIA

On a "blink of death" T20 the equivalent part has about 20 megaohms resistance but this one on the T21 appears to be open-circuited. The part is located beneath the harddisk cage near one of the sticky pads.

2. A four-legged part (Y5) near the main battery fuse F12. The left hand legs have about 3 megaohms resistance but the right hand ones are short-circuited. On the T20 the LHS resistance is just under 3 megaohms but the right hand side has about 0.2 ohms. There doesn't appear to be any connection between the right and left hand sides. On the T21 the part is marked "32C07".

Any help much appreciated (tests on a known working T21 would be great). I've tested as many of the fuses I could find as well as the main capacitors.

Cheers

Boy, opening up my T21 again...

I've been enjoying the heck out of it lately too.

I might be able to open it up this weekend depending on how much of deer season I miss out on.

FWIW, I think the 10.000 component is a crystal, and I doubt it would be the culprit.
Common sense to some of us is unfortunately the higher education others strive to attain.

Thanks Joe. I think you are right but the other smaller ones have some sort of resistance at least even though there are in the few to tens of megaohms but this one is nada.

As for deer hunting, you know you could get mistaken for a deer as well - Dick Chaney? comes to mind.
Cheers
