T23 Ethernet Trouble

#1 Post by jamiphar » Sun Dec 10, 2006 9:03 pm

The Ethernet adapter on my T23 doesn't seem to be working fully. I'll attach a cable, and the tray icon shows it trying to connect, but then it says the network cable is unplugged.
I'm using a pcmcia adapter right now and it works fine with the same cable and I've tried changing drivers for the Ethernet adapter and I still get the same thing. Has anyone ever had this happen before? Do I possibly need to replace the sub card?

It may be possible that you need a new card, but check the connections to the card. Open the cover, there are two cables that attach to the card, unplug them, take card out, reseat the card and then reseat the cables. If the connection is still bad, you may need to replace the card.

I actually tried that already (mine is a daughter card, so it only has the one cable connected to it) and it didn't make any difference.
So maybe I will have to replace it. Do you happen to know if there are Ethernet/bluetooth combo daughter cards?

Sounds like a bad card, unfornately, there are no good choices to replace this with. Check these part numbers for a replacement IBM FRU PN: 26P8092, 26P8160, 26P8472, 12P3637, 12P3657, 91P7661, 26P8294, 26P8295 for the modem/ethernet combo card or the small card like this one http://cgi.ebay.com/IBM-Thinkpad-T23-A3 ... dZViewItem

Yeah, I think I'll just get a plain Ethernet daughter card to replace it, hopefully that's all that's wrong. I have a USB bluetooth dongle anyway. :)

Check your network connections to make sure that you don't have any of your networking devices "bridged". I run into problem after problem when Windows tried to bridge the connections. I ALWAYS remove the bridge.

I checked and they don't appear to be bridged. It doesn't seem to be the actual network jack either, I can see both indicator lights. I guess there's not much else that can be causing it other than the card.

I just got another Ethernet card and installed it, everything works fine now. It was simply bad card.
