T30 Wifi Connection Problems

#1 Post by MikeXRyan » Sat Dec 16, 2006 12:42 pm

It's been awhile since visiting this forum. I purchased a T30 from Bill (Morrow) several years ago and loved it at the time but I have since moved on to Apple's latest MacBook.

My son is now using the T30 but complains that he is unable to connect to hotspots at WiFi cafes. I took both of our machines to the local free WiFi hotspot and tried the T30. It appears to be connected, all the bars turn green but when I fire up a browser I can't surf anywhere. The machine finds all the local hotspots in its menu so I'm stumped on why I can't select the free access ones and start surfing.

No problem with the MacBook. Open it up and we connect like buddah. So there has to be something that is blocking the connection. I've checked all the settings and they seem to be correct (but I'm so Mac oriented now I'm probably missing something). Could it be a driver needs updating? Could someone post the old Matrix T30 site url?

Thanks for the help,
Mike Ryan

Mike, there's a diagnostic function integrated with Access Connections. it would serve as a starting point and may provide a clue or two as to connectivity issues.

here's the matrix:

@uberT

Here is a tip on posting long URL's. Below is what you used minus the small text coding.

[url]http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... product.do?
template=%2Fproductpage%2Flandingpages%FproductPageLandingPage.
vm&sitestyle=lenovo&brandind=10&familyind=99273&machineind=99914&modelind=
99930&partnumberind=0&subcategoryind=0&doctypeind=100&doccategoryind=0&
operatingsystemind=53385&validate=true[/url]

Starting with just a URL, put a ] at the end of it and add or paste desired text.
Next highlight the URL & text and click the URL button on the Posting page,
then you need to delete the ] after the first url and replace it with an = sign.

Here is a completed example with the changes made (I Disabled BBCode in this post
so that you can see the example. I also used carriage returns for display purposes here.
You should not use carriage returns in the URL however.).

[url=http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... product.do?
template=%2Fproductpage%2Flandingpages%2FproductPageLandingPage.
vm&sitestyle=lenovo&brandind=10&familyind=99273&machineind=99914&modelind=
99930&partnumberind=0&subcategoryind=0&doctypeind=100&doccategoryind=0&
operatingsystemind=53385&validate=true]ThinkPad Matrix Page[/url]

To the OP, can you connect the T30 to your wireless router at home?

Maybe you have done the following already, but if not, in Access Connections did you try to
create a wireless WAN profile? Make sure you know any security settings the Hotspot may require.

Make sure Windows is not trying to manage your connection at the same time as Access Connections.
You can go to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services, then stop and disable
the Wireless Zero Configuration service.

Try turning off the software firewall and see if you can make a connection. Sometimes software
firewalls will prevent connections.

Mouse over the Access Connections icon in the Notification Area. What is the IP Address displayed?
If it starts with 169, see following links.
IP Address 169

Yeah, sorry about that. Every bulletin board is a bit different. I don't understand why the link wasn't parsed. Maybe not an option here ?
