mystery "PCI Device" on T23

#1 Post by joshrob » Wed Dec 20, 2006 8:38 am

hi

i have a T23 (2648-2GG) with win 2000 installed. since the beginning in device manager i can see a mystery "PCI Device". It's not a LAN card, neither a modem nor a IR port.

any clues what can it be?

regards,

The quickest way to tell is to feel along the side edge of the screen. If there's a cross-hatch panel there, it at least left the factory with a wireless card and antenna installed.

My 2647-8NU T23 (long gone) has built-in wireless. It is a pretty old NIC by today's wireless standards. ... JD Hurst

nope, no panel at any side of a screen. there is one, but on the top of it and as i remember is an ibm-designed webcam slot or sth.

regards,
I don't remember if Win2k had this functionality, but when you double click on the mystery device in Device Manager, do you get a Details tab? It should be before Resources tab.

If so, check out the PCI ID. It should be something like

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_4223&SUBSYS_WHATEVERBLAHBLAH

The first will give the vendor, in my case Intel, and the second one is the device. This is how Plug & Play system knows which driver to load among many others when you insert/install a device.

Then do a Google search on just the VEN_1234&DEV_1234, it will tell what the device is (mostly).

unfortunately not.
the only tabs i have in w2k are: "general", "driver", "resources"

and all the information provided within there three is:
- PCI BUS 0, device 31, function 3
- I/O range 1880-189F
- IRQ 11

Yeah. Strange.

Josh, download and install this chipset driver from Intel, reboot and tell us if you still see that mystery device. It should go.

What???

You installed the driver, rebooted, and it is still the mystery device?

I did a small search, initial hunch remains corrected: it is the IDE bus driver. Or more technically, it is the

Bus 0, device 31, function 3:
SMBus: Intel Corp. 82801BA/BAM SMBus (rev 3).

or

Bus 0, device 31, function 3:
SMBus: PCI device 8086:2483 (Intel Corp.) (rev 1).
IRQ 11.
I/O at 0x1880 [0x189f].

as

http://darkridge.com/~jpr5/r505jl/pci and many other sites claim.

I had a similar problem with Win2K on My first X22, and solved it by installing these supplementary files.

Dell OptiPlex 9010 SFF (Core i3-3220 / 8GB / 8TB); HP 8300 Elite minitower (Core i7-3770 / 16GB / 9.25TB)
