T23 last breaths?

#1 Post by Fusion » Fri Dec 22, 2006 3:05 am

Hi all. Nice forum!

I got a few very cheap TPs today so I have a few questions:

1. TP T23 PIII 750, 256MB RAM, 12G HDD - when I turn this one on the green leads light up and all that happens after that is the fan going "fast, slow, fast, slow...". I don't hear the HDD start up, though I know it's OK. I've taken it apart but I have no idea what I should be looking for.

2. TP T20 PIII 650, 256MB RAM, 12G HDD - I get an "Error 0175: Bad CRC1".
I've googled this and found this http://www.sysopt.com/forum/printthread ... did=147234. Anyone have any experience fixing this problem?

Thanks for your replys in advance!

The T23 needs to have the inductors on the motherboard resoldered. They're located on the underside of the PCMCIA slots. Not too hard, just a little delicate. I had to do that to mine and it's worked fine ever since.

Here's a thread that has a good bit more info: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... t=inductor

:)

Kaervak is correct on the T23 issue.

As for the T20, it will need a replacement systemboard. There is another way around it that would require skillful soldering and replacing the EEPROM, but as per forum rules, we cannot discuss that here.

Thanks guys, I got the T23 working. One of the inductors was holding only on one side.

Problem is that now even the T23 has the same prob as the T20.

Edit: the T23 doesn't have the E0175 problem, but a 1-3-3-1 beep error (board, Dimm). I had too many beers yesterday :)
Anyone have any info on this error?

Edit2: I had the wrong RAM in there, hangovers suck. T23 wokring, installing OS, woohoo!

1-3-3-1 generally means that there is a problem with the memory. Try reseating the ram sticks.

New info on the T20 CRC1 problem.
I found this site http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/topic/31761/ and like they say, I have the LEDs flickering and stuff so it seems I have the power problem.

T23 up and running.
Also found out it's not a 750 but a PIII M 1133.

New question regarding this thinkpad: There's a card in it next to the modem with a FRU 26p8181.
Is this a Wifi card?
I've downloaded all driver updates but it looks like a regular ethernet card.

The modem card resides in the Mini PCI slot (about 2 1/4"; 6cm wide). The ethernet card is next to it, held in place with 2 screws. If you have the WiFi option, it replaces the modem card.

Seems it has a regular 56k modem + 10/100 ethernet. No prob though.
Is 2.5-3 hours a good operational time for older batteries?

I hope yall had a nice Xmas!

So, like I wrote in the last message, it looks like the T20 has the power prob.
Is this easier to cure than the EEPROM problem?
