Unwanted Boot options on a T23

#1 Post by TomKroscavage » Fri Dec 29, 2006 10:12 am

At boot up my T23 gives me a boot option screen. I have a short memory but my choices are something like 1.) Microsoft XP Professional and 2.) Microsoft XP. The second choice does not work, and tells me I have the wrong disk in. Can I make my T23 boot without this delay. Also I just close the lid when I am done "computing" is this what I should be doing?

hello
this is not a major problem and it's simple to fix
there are more ways to do it,first the safest one:
go to start>run and type msconfig and hit ENTER
in the window that opens select the BOOT.INI tab
and click the Check All Boot Paths button and should remove the invalid boot path that doesn't work for you

try this and report back here if it worked or not.
i'll tell you other ways to get rid of that for good.

good luck.

Get a command prompt window and type "bootcfg". You'll see the same options as listed at start up. To delete an option type "bootcfg /delete /ID n" where n is the number as reported by bootcfg.

ok
now the risky part, but if u are careful u have nothing to worry:
- open MyComputer and go to the C: drive [if that's your boot drive]
- now go to the Tools menu Folder Options and select the View tab
- now select the radio button that says Show Hidden Files And folder
and uncheck the box that says Hide protected operating system files (recommended)
now look onto the C: drive and you will see some new files
look for a file named Boot.ini and open it with notepad and paste teh content here of that file so i can look at it and tell you what to remove from it so that we cand solve the problem.
ATTENTION do not modify that file until i give you the correct lines to put in it!!

LE: or try what he said...he was faster and i didn't knew about this windows feature :P but i was telling you basicly the same thing only it was manual labor :P

a much easier solution is as follows:

boot up windows.
- go to control panel and load up the system window.
- Select the advanced tab
- click settings in the "startup and recovery" Section
- You can then simply unclick the "time to display list of operating systems" or alternativley set the time to zero.

This should solve the problem aswell and is not risky as you are simply disabling the message (assuming the correct operating system is set to default).

There is also a button which gives you the option to manually edit the boot.ini file as previously discribed

I am glad you beat me to that. It's a nice graphical solution to the msconfig program (which for some reason people are scared of) and the command line.

++ on your post.
