Misc start up and lock up problems...

#1 Post by brucehe » Sun Jan 07, 2007 6:00 pm

Hello.

I thought I had found the solution to my random start up and lock up problems on my t21. I had tightened up the clips that hold two 256k Crucial memory sticks. They seem more secure and the machine ran fine for 24 hours. I ran PC Doctor while it was working and passed all tests including 10 passes for the system board.

However today it is being random again. It does all of these things below including running just fine.

It will not boot and give me beep code of 1-3-3-1 and 3-3-1.
It will start the boot (w2K) and stop before it completes the boot
It will boot then immediately give me a blue screen stop error with various messages.
It will boot to windows and the cursor will lock.

It seems like handling the machine causes the lock up problems. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Bruce

I cleaned off the memory card edge connectors with an eraser and have had four good reboots. As anyone tried CIAG Deoxit on computer connectors?

Never heard of the stuff but I have recommended the eraser trick several times here. You might also try to clean the contacts in the SODIMM socket as well. Foam-tipped swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol can clean off dirt and grease but may not work too well against badly oxidized metal. For that you may need something more aggressive.

Ray,

Here is the website for Deoxit.

http://store.caig.com/s.nl/sc.1/.f

I bought it from Frank Van Alstine http://www.avahifi.com/

who builds stereo equipment and have used it on my audio equipment and car. I will put some on a q-tip and work on the socket a bit. The t21 is still running. If I get inspired I will look for an IO board. It could actually be fun to take it apart.

I just had same problem w/my T21. I replaced, today, two 128mb memory sticks w/ two 256mb sticks. Randomly started rebooting Win2k. After some experimentation, I think one of the new 256mb sticks is faulty while the other is functioning correctly.
