AC Power Adaptor

#1 Post by Rex » Wed Jan 10, 2007 4:14 am

Hi there,

My T22 screen started to go on the blink yesterday; thought that it was no its way out, but fortunately, not so.

Although used at home on the mains cable 100% of the time, the taskbar power light was flashing between charging, charged and battery.

Changed the AC adaptor and the problem was fixed. Use the same adaptor on another T20, and the same thing happened.

Have put a volt meter across the adaptor and it seems to be stable. Do AC adaptors just give up the ghost for no reason?

Many thanks,

Rex

Yes, they can sometimes appear to be delivering the right voltage, but unless they are loaded (supplying some significant amount of current) you can't say for sure that the supply is good or bad. Also, using just a regular DC voltmeter you can't see if there is an AC component (i.e., sine wave) that is not being filtered out properly. I'd say that particular adapter is an "ex-power supply".

BTW, is it a 54 watt supply (3.36A) or a 72 watt (4.5A) version?

Ray,

Thanks. Pretty much what I figured. Just pleased it is not the ThinkPad.
