T23 replacement parts

#1 Post by hexnut » Fri Jan 12, 2007 9:17 pm

My T23 would not power up, no POST or BIOS, so I disassembled it looking for loose inductors or bad fuses. I checked all of the fuses with a DMM and F2 (next to J5) is open. The fuse is clear with copper visible at both ends. It has the letters FU screened on the top. I have not removed it so I do not see any other markings.

Does anyone know what the value of this fuse is and where I might find a suitable replacement (other than a piece of wire)?

Thanks.

Welcome to thinkpads.com!

I think I found a picture I had posted with that fuse just barely visible:

It's at the very top of the picture and is next to the connector which the DC jack plugs into, correct? If so, then I believe that you can replace it with a Littelfuse 24V 7A fuse as outlined in this thread:

(edit: Word of warning... If you don't know what caused the fuse to blow, you stand a chance of the replacement fuse blowing and/or causing damage to other components on the board.)

Yes, that is the fuse. I had read the other thread you mention but for some reason it didn't register with me that it was the same fuse.

I am not sure what caused the fuse to blow and I do understand that replacing it might cause something else to fail. At this point I have a T23 that isn't of much use to me so if something else fails I will have to buy another used one.

Ray, thanks for your speedy responses. I will try to buy the fuse you mention. I will let you know how things work out after I replace the bad one.

Thanks again.
