Dead T23

#1 Post by SaderBiscut » Fri Jan 26, 2007 3:22 pm

about six months ago, I got a T23. I must say, it is a very good laptop, for it's speed and capability it did almost everything I needed it too.

Then I started having problems with the S3 Driver, if I played certain games it would bsod with a problem with "s3ssav.dll", I simply avoided these games.

Then it had problems with Tribes 2, the problem being, it had played Tribes 2 fine for the last few months, and then it just stopped running it, however at this point it started having problems.

The whole system would lock up, I'd have to yank the power, then it would crash and wavy lines would appear across the screen, then it would stop booting entirely.

Now it won't start up, only harddrive activity, and the pulsing fan.

Any ideas? I found the topics indicating the loose parts on the motherboard, but none of them seem to be unconnected.

Edit (Specs):
PIII 1.13Ghz
256mb Ram
30gb Harddrive

I'm unsure of what model it is, is says type 2647 on the bottom?

so you've already pulled the ENTIRE system apart, and checked on the BOTTOM of the motherboard? that is where the loose piece falls off.

regarding crashing Windows and stuff, there are a few things you could have done.

- format and re-install Windows

- run memTest86 to make sure the ram and system are stable

Windows only crashed when I played (or ran for that matter) certain games, It was fairly stable. However now, it will not even boot. (the laptop, at all)

And I haven't found any loose parts.

Also, it's a 78DD2K6 (I just figured out the significane of that)

When it turns on, it dosen't smell burnt or such, but it makes an odd whine that you can hear if you put your ear to the keyboard.

Should I get a new motherboard? I've yet to find any loose parts.

What I do is pull up the keyboard so that it's not tucked in under the KB bezel, but still attached to the motherboard. I start it up, and then pull the KB off (don't know if it's safe or recommended, but it hasn't failed me). It's then much easier to find what's making the noise, rather than listening to a keyboard!

dsigma6, here's where your port replicator can come in handy. Simply remove the keyboard from the laptop, place the laptop into the port rep and use the power button on the port rep to turn on the system.

Good call Ray. It's nice when people know more about you than you do!

OP- do you want the port replicator? $8 shipped priority mail.
