Are T20 and T22 LCDs interchangeable?
I have a T22 sitting here and before I open it to switch out the LCD (it is cracked) I would like to know if the LCDs are interchangeable. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. Thanks.

Yes, T2x panels are interchangeable. Panels from some Dell laptops will work as well, like the C600/610.
You need the correct LCD cable if you use a panel with a different resolution (if you upgrade from XGA to SXGA for instance).

Also make sure your particular T2x model has the graphics power to run the SXGA+ LCD. If you have the 8mb version of the savage or the savage II then your outa luck. You need the 16mb version which is most found on the T23 and I think a few T22s.

I hope that's not true... I just purchased a T21 (2647-9AU), which according to the tawbook specs and IBM/Lenovo web site, came with the SXGA+ panel and 8MB of video memory. By my calculations, 32 bit color depth at that resolution should only require just under 6MB of memory. 24 bit color needs 4.4MB. I guess that might mean I'd be limited to something less than 24 bit color if I choose to use dual monitors, but that's not what I had in mind with this system.

The T20 and T21 with the XGA panel have the S3® Savage IX8 chip, but I'm sure it can operate the higher resolution as well. T21 models with the SXGA+ display and the T22s came with a S3® Savage IX8+ chip. Both controllers have 8MB memory.
There is no mention of a T22 with 16MB video memory in the tawbook.djpharoah wrote: ...the 16mb version which is most found on the T23 and I think a few T22s.

Oh no, I have a T20 screen sitting here, good condition except for the poor backlight. But the T22 backlight works awesomely.
I will test this all out when I get a chance, but it should work if they are interchangeable (the LCDs)

Just be careful when switching backlights, they're pretty easy to break.Dark Savant0 wrote:Oh no, I have a T20 screen sitting here, good condition except for the poor backlight. But the T22 backlight works awesomely.
