Totally DOA T21?

#1 Post by chipmonger » Sat Feb 03, 2007 10:34 pm

Had a friend give me a T21 that he had in storage for some time. The system is in excellent condition, and included a port replicator.

Unfortunately, when plugging in an AC adapter, the system does not boot, and none of the LEDs light. I've also tried docking the laptop and using the AC adapter through the dock, but this had the same results.

Is this system shot, or might it possibly just need a CMOS battery replacement?

Thanks,

Ken

It could be that the AC adapter is bad.

If you are interested in getting rid of it, let me know....many parts on it that I could use...

welcome to the forum

CMOS battery symptoms are different: machine boots, gives errors 161, 163 asks for date/time-->OS.
1. can you borrow a charged battery for a t2x to see if it works from battery?
2. the charging circuit has fuse protection against wrong voltage/polarity: possibly one is blown

also, try our "search" facility: we had a thread "dead t21" not so long ago
the way up and the way down are the same (heraclitus)

I thought of that and tried an AC adapter from an old 600e and my T23 - neither worked as well.

Tried the battery from my T23 - same results.

Found the 'dead t23' thread, didn't see one for a t21.

Thanks,

Ken

If it isn't the AC adapter, then you might want to check out the thread referenced by tomlightbody....it's right here.
