SL53S chip

#1 Post by 95naSTA » Mon Feb 05, 2007 11:19 pm

Hey guys, great forum!
I've been lurking around recently and this place has been very helpful.
I just recently got 1 256mb stick of ram (had 2 128s) and a SL53S 1 Ghz PIII processor.
I upgraded to the ram first, booted up and everything worked fine.
Then I tried the SL53S chip. I could get the lights to turn on but it wouldn't boot up.
I put the old 700 MHz chip back in and it works fine.
Does this mean its fried, my motherboard isn't compatible, or somthing else?
Thanks in advance.

Try reseating the new CPU. Make sure you have proper heat-conducting/thermal paste between CPU and fan-unit.
If not, it could overheat in seconds and conk out (not necessarily fry).

I'll give it another shot. I had it in and out 4 times and I did have a good amount of thermal paste on it.
BTW, I'm mostly Irish, and was over there in '98. Very beautiful place.
