LCD upgrade?
LCD upgrade?
I bought a Thinkpad T22 with a standard XGA (1024x768) LCD. Next week, I may have a Dell Inspiron 8100 with an SXGA+ (1400x1050) LCD that I'll turn around and sell. Assuming the LCDs are the same size, can I simply swap the them? Are the connectors standardized, and do the power requirements differ (would I need to swap invertors, too)?

In order to install an SXGA+ screen into the Thinkpad, you will also need to change the ribbon ("flex") cable that connects the panel to the motherboard.
Assuming you do that, I'm not sure if there is a standard for the connector used on the back side of the LCD panel. There are two SXGA+ panels listed in the Hardware Maintenance Manual for the T2x systems: Hitachi and LG. Tonight I have just swapped an SXGA+ panel out of a T21 into a T23 that had a problem with its backlight. I merely extracted the panel out of the T21's lid and moved it to the T23. I didn't even look to see if they were the same panel
.
Without having attempted it before, I'm fairly certain that you could NOT take an XGA-equipped system and change ONLY the LCD panel. You need that cable too.
There is also one other thing to consider: the mounting holes along the side of the panel. There are four holes on each side of the T2x lid, of which only two are used, depending upon the panel that's inside. The panel inside the Dell may have the mounting holes in the same position as on the lid of the Thinkpad as it might be some sort of industry standard. But to be safe, I'd measure them before I'd go through the trouble of taking it apart.
