removal of backup battery

#1 Post by pitski » Tue Feb 06, 2007 1:22 pm

i can't get the backup battery out. the white connector seems wedged in. if i tug on the wire i'm afraid it'll break. is there a release for the connector? thnaks.

Is this for a T2x system? If so, there is no "latch" or "catch" that holds the plug into the connector on the motherboard. It DOES take a firm pull sometimes to remove the battery. Just be sure to lift the battery holder out of the recess in the keyboard bezel and pull STRAIGHT out (i.e., towards the outer edge of the laptop).

The harder part (from my bad eyes) is plugging the battery back IN :) .

I just ran into this as well. As Ray says, lift the battery part of the plastic frame up out of the recess -- may require a small screwdriver or nail file to get ahold of it. Then move the whole plastic frame toward the edge. I had to pry on it gently with the small screwdriver to get it unplugged. Not IBM's best idea.

The white part is the actual connector that the wires are attached to. What you might see on the motherboard is the mating receptacle. The battery is the same one that I have in the T23. It should come out with a good pull. If you think that it's stuck then I wouldn't attempt removing it since you may be looking at a broken connector on the motherboard. Get professional help so that if they break something, they'll fix it for you.

If you do end up with a broken connector and are handy with a soldering iron, then I may have found a source for a replacement (digikey.com).

One small bit of advice....remove the keyboard screw that is sitting right next to where the CMOS plugs in. It keeps the pressure on the connector. Once that is removed, it will be easier to get the CMOS battery in and out.
