Memory not seen

#1 Post by FunkyRes » Tue Feb 06, 2007 4:50 pm

T20 2648 700MHz

I had 2 X 128MB

One ram chip went bad.
I know it was the chip that was bad because I tested both chips individually in the same slot.

So I purchased a 256MB chip from crucial thinking it would give me 356MB.

With just the crucial chip it shows 256 MB as it should.
With just the old chip it shows 128MB as it should.

With both chips - and which slot they are in doesn't matter - it only shows 256MB.

Anyone have a clue as to what is going on?

It is this way both in memtest86 and in the bios.
Only 256MB seen.

Absolutely not :( .

This is indeed strange. More data needs to be collected:

- What are the manufacturer's part numbers from BOTH modules? Clear pictures would help if you can post them somewhere else and provide a link here.
- Any known mods done to the laptop?
- What is the BIOS revision?

And by the way, it should total 384MB :) .

bios version - 1.22 (IYET61WW)
- looks like most recent from http://www-3.ibm.com/pc/support/site.ws ... JSQHB.html

128MB old ram -
Looks like whatever IBM was using -
FRU 20L0266

New ram - 256MB bought from crucial -

256MB 144-pin SODIMM 32Mx64 PC133 CL2
CT32M64S4W7E.16FGY

I'll have to open it up to see the actual brand on it.

Just my two cents, but when I upped my RAM two months ago the same thing happened, in fact the guy who was to do the RAM upgrade tried 4 pairs of new sticks in my T22 and none of them reigstered correctly, like yours. I then bought two sticks of IBM 256 myself and fooled with it, and found that they had to be seated "JUST RIGHT" in those slots and snapped in - and viola, they registered as 512MB. I'm glad it all worked out for you.
