Blank Screen, Hangs

#1 Post by fleamourian » Fri Feb 16, 2007 3:50 pm

I recently separated my HDD from it's caddy to see if it would fit in the Ultrabay 2nd HDD Adaptor, however when reassembling & powering up the screen is blank & jst hangs. I must admit I used a magnetized screwdriver but thought the field would be too weak to matter.

Is this salvageable???

Well hell

Had a friend check it out & it's not the disk drive. So looks like I'll have to find someone that fixes laptops for a fixed fee.

The hard drive, with caddy, should be able to fit inside a genuine IBM Ultrabay 2000 hard disk drive adapter. I do it all of the time. Don't even need to remove the screws; just make sure that they're in all of the way. It DOES take a little bit of force to get the drive/caddy assembly inside the bay, as does trying to remove the drive. Fingernails help!

If you have one of the aftermarket knock-offs, then I'm not sure if they can be used with a caddy on the drive. I've stuck to the factory IBM units as pictured here:

To troubleshoot your laptop, I'd download a copy of PC Doctor as a start.

Ah, fits with the caddy. Def genuine unit complete with warranty.

Unfortunately there is no BIOS or anything, can't actually boot PC Doctor from diskette. :(

So I understand that you can even access the BIOS or boot the system, correct? Are there any error messages and/or beep codes issued by the laptop when you turn it on?

Correct. No error messages, no beeps, nada, zip, however on powering up the fan runs (I thought it only ran when hot?) It has run fine till now, bought from eBay approx mid-December. :??:

Here's something from out of my past:

Short version: Pull the ethernet/modem MiniPCI card and see if that helps.
