T23 USB port failure

#1 Post by twodisks » Sat Feb 17, 2007 1:17 am

Hello

I have a new T23 and it looks like on of the USB ports is bad. My question is, is the USB chip on the IO panel or on the system board?

Thanks!
Bill

The USB chip is in fact integrated in 830MP chipset, but maybe the I/O panel has a problem, or even just the port itself... How many ports do you have - 1 or 2 - if the other one is working, then the easiest solution would be to change the panel.

The T23 has 2 USB ports on the back side by side in a virtical orientation. You might try both. When I had a T23, one was bad, but the other was OK. They are soldered on the MB and there's no guarantee that it's the ports themselves unless you want to do some soldering and swap them. So the best alternative might be to get one of those cheap PC Card USB 2.0 from ebay and using that.

There are downsides to that though. I found that my Canon LIDE scanner only worked when plugged into the actual computer. I guess the PC Card didn't output enough power.

I still think that the problem lies in the I/O panel, since I've had a similar problem with my old Compaq Armada. The panel itself is not integrated in the motherboard, instead it uses a plastic connector so, this is easily changeable...
Try to find a I/O board for T23 on eBay, I think that would be the best solution. It's pretty cheap.
