t22 flashing bat light and CD-R woes

#1 Post by seahawk » Mon Feb 19, 2007 9:56 am

Hi ya'll, new to the forum but very happy to have found it.

I just picked up a t22 recently, and it has been great so far other than two concerns.

1. My battery light will not stop flashing. I searched the forum yesterday and came across two solutions- both involved unplugging the power cord, taking the battery out, and pressing the power button in a certain sequence. I did that, and it was fine. Today however, it's back to normal with the flashing orange. Whenever the battery light is flashing, the Battery Maximizer Gauge on the toolbar is grey. The battery is new, I replaced it shortly after buying the computer.

2. I can not get the computer to burn a CD. I have the Matshita DVD-ROM SR-8175. Is this drive even a burner? IF so, my computer does not recognize it as such. It otherwise functions fine, reading CD's and DVD's. It just won't burn. I have tried to use Nero burning wizard and also Windows Media Player with the Nero plugin turned on, but it just doesn't even recognize that a burner is connected.

Thanks for any help.

The DVD

First welcome to the forums, you will find a lot of useful information on this site.

I am not sure about the flashing battery light, mine does it on occasion on my T21, however the battery icon does not go grey.

The Mashita SR-8175 is not a cd-burner, it appears from what I checked out to be just a DVD player. For a complete parts list of what you can add or have check out:

I did however discover some drives on ebay that were both DVD Rom and CD-burner for my T21 and even some DVD-Burner Drives, I have not purchased any of these however, but based on the pictures they looked that they could fit.

Hello, welcome. Enjoy that new T22, I love mine. I had the same flashing orange battery icon too, after I bought a nice cheap aftermarket battery on-line, you know the ones that say they replace IBM battery # ...... well, I ended up sending mine back for a refund and buying an original IBM battery on e-bay which has only 90% life left, but has not flashed at me yet and is very reliable.

I also had just a CD/DVD drive in my T22 when I got it and recently bought a used but mint CDRW/DVD original IBM drive on E-bay for $30; it works great and if you open My Computer it will definitely say DVD/CD-RW drive (D).

Good luck.
