T22 1.0ghz cpu running at 255mhz ???
I have a T22 2547-m6u It has a 1.0 cpu in it. It will start up at the right speed but after some time the bus speed drops down to 25.something and cpu speed runs at 255 mhz. I have settings all at max performance and I am using speedswitchxp
Also have tried installing the latest bios and drivers, same problem. Bought and installed a brand new battery, no difference. I also have installed Win2K and laptop displayed the exact same problem. The only way to get it to revert to the full speed is to shut it down and reboot, not just a restart, that will restart at 255 again, it has to be a full shut down and reboot.
Please help me I am about to give up which would be a shame because this is a nice machine otherwise and I really enjoy the SXGA+ display.

you could try Notebook Hardware Control
http://www.pbus-167.com/
i use it on my Laptops to force them back to full speed when they seem stuck in battery saving speed.
you may be able to fix it with the ThinkPads Configuration software, or with Windows power settings. they may let you set the speed to "max performance" instead of "max battery savings"... then again, they may not work, and thats why i keep Notebook Hardware Control on my system.
if you're using battery, you can tell it to slow down the CPU. the second it detects that the Laptop is plugged in, it will set it to max speed.

Hmm.. a second comment in as many days about using SpeedSwitch XP and the system reporting lower than expected CPU speed....
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... 601#253601
Try using MobileMeter, available here:
http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Sys ... eter.shtml
That program will only measure the CPU speed, not attempt to control it. I would remove/disable SpeedSwitch XP temporarily to see what effect it has over the system speed.
Also, I have seen Windows 2000 throttle back the front side bus speed to one-half normal when running battery only. It will NOT revert back to full speed unless you have the AC adapter plugged into the system BEFORE powering up.

I am using at least 2 different programs at a time to report speed. The speed was reported correctly @ 255mhz before speed switch xp. Also the speed was reported this way under Win2K (speed switch xp wont work with Win2K) and the bus speed was at 25mhz which is effectively 1/4 of what it should be.rkawakami wrote:Hmm.. a second comment in as many days about using SpeedSwitch XP and the system reporting lower than expected CPU speed....
I would like to run PC Doctor on this system but I dont have a floppy drive and the link I have found here for the .iso image is no good.

Re: T22 1.0ghz cpu running at 255mhz ???
If it's really 255MHz, XP or Win 2K should feel extremely slow. If it doesn't feel that slow, then the speed is probably just somehow misreported and you shouldn't worry too much about it.tonepaq wrote:I have a T22 2547-m6u It has a 1.0 cpu in it. I would agree with Pianowizard, you have to go by your gut. I just shut down my SpeedSwitchXP program and I don't notice any difference in performance. I changed my power setting to portable/laptop, so it is no longer on speedswitch. Nothing has changed, all pages still load with great speed, no lag.
Perhaps you should reconsider selling the T22, especially since PCDoctor checked you out.

You could also boot memtest86+, as that diagnostic also reports the CPU speed. That would elminate ANY Windows effect on the speed and you would only be left with the BIOS settings that could change your CPU and/or FSB clock rate.

Have you done a full antivirus/antispyware scan?
Sounds like your laptop is bogged down by some malware, you wouldn't be the first one!
If you can go online, I recommend this one: http://housecall65.trendmicro.com/

Download and burn a live linux disk. Boot off it. If it's nice and fast, then the problem lies in windows. I would suggest a refresh of the system. Or at the very least fire up msconfig and go through it with a fine tooth comb.
