access denied.. cannot copy files to network shared file

#1 Post by DanDLT » Sun Feb 25, 2007 5:34 pm

hi fellas...
im stuck and i dont know how to fix..
Ive got my network set up between my desktop computer and my thinkpad t30 via a linksys router.. i am able to copy files from network and desktop onto my thinkpad.. but not able to copy files from thinkpad onto the server shared files on the desktop.. i keep getting cannot copy or create. verify disk is not full and file is not currently in use..

.. hmmm..... ive tried everything set the file on share everything else i can think of.. i am connected to the network because i can see the shared files from my desktop.. but when i copy the files to paste them into the shared files on the network, the thinkpad wont let me no matter what. i can paste them anywhere else except on the network..... been trying to do it for 2 days.. does anyone have any advice?

i can drag the files to shared folder but cant find that same shared folder on the network from my other computer...
im just want to save files from thinkpad onto my desktop..
im not running access connections,, i removed it..
i tried check disk for errors. ran spybot. turned off firewall..
set up a workgroup.. im trying to save my files in case anything happens to my thinkpad...
what am i missing? anyone have any idea?
i can get into the network when i click on network places but just cant copy anything in there....
HELP!! please!
thanks
dan

What OS are you using?

Also, I will likely move this to a different conference for you, since it doesn't really pertain to your T30, but rather network options....it will improve your chances of getting a better response.

However, I am pretty sure it has to do with the sharing options on your desktop. I cannot remember exactly, but correcting it is something along the lines of allowing access to systems with an IP address that begins with whatever your network IP address is. Maybe someone can explain this better.

Disable simple file sharing on the T30 (XP Pro) and then at the XP Home machine, use Map Network Drive and map the T30 machine from the Home machine (using the proper login credentials). That should work. I did that on a Home machine of a client and it worked. ... JD Hurst

thanks tfflivemb2 ya mentioned sharing options on my desktop,,,,so i went to control panel... one of the icons was poppin out at me.. gues one.. the intel Pro set wireless card.,.. looked in there under,, no went into network connections and,, right clicked on the network connection and then the wireless properties on the general tab. file sharing and printer was not selected.. so well i think that was the click ive been searching for two days... so then i clicked ok and i went to reboot.. then restarted but then it asked me for a password and name.. finally guessed the right login and started up... went to my deskop computer, opened up network connection and there were my files, i just put them on share and the y showed, alhtough i still cant copy them into the network,, this does the job the right way, i just unclick them when im done , instead of copying them back over.....so there i go, im all happy now thanks for the tip,,..
so it turned out my intel wireless card sharing was not selected...
but man that was hard as tiits!!!
love my thinkpad

I'm glad you got it sorted out so quickly, you'll always get the right answers here.

I was going to suggest that checkmark under the network connection, as I purposely leave mine unchecked, especially when we are traveling and taking the laptop. Don't want the ability to share your computer's files with a strange network connection. I'm glad that that check mark really does stop the sharing.
