succesful sxga+ conversion

#1 Post by jimmy274 » Wed Feb 28, 2007 3:23 pm

If anyone out there has any doubts about wheter to upgrade his thinkpad T23 to sxga+... Doubt no more.
I succesfully upgraded my thinkpad T23 (originally xga) to sxga+ with a T22 display. Both thinkpads had no problem accepting new settings - from the first press on the power button, both laptops worked - not even a power cycle problem.
I hope this helps someone...

Figures, the graphics chip on the T22 and T23 will accept SXGA+ screens. Only T21s from the factory with SXGA+ screens are the only ones that can use them. T20s will not accept SXGA+ screens.

Just ran into my first problem - the LCD doesn't power on when it wakes from standby :( This was fine with the XGA...
Probably some kind of a driver issue, but when you look at the driver for LCD it says: "IBM 1400x1050" panel, anyone got any clues on how to fix this?

P.S. I gave away my XGA and 50EUR - it was in crappy condition...

Check your connections to the LCD and the inverter. The problem probably lies there.

I don't think it's the inverter/cable since everything else is working great - even the hibernation. My battery's bad, so I don't even need the suspend mode (I switched it to hibernation).
Anyways, maybe it's got something to do with the embedded controller program (I updated it before I switched to SXGA).
P.S. None of the function keys work (Fn+Fx)...
Although, I am [censored] for not knowing what's the problem...

Ok, just to say that everything is working perfect - even the standby ;)
The cure? I reinstalled Windows, since I've got a new hard drive (7k60), and everything is great!
The strange thing, though, is that on old Windows, even the driver reinstallation did not help ?!?

How hard is it to find one of thease 1400x1050 lcd screen's??
I just bought a T22 that has the 14.1 xga(1024x768).
I'm guessing all i need is the 1400x1050 lcd panel and the lcd ribbin cable?
I did a quick check on e-bay but only found the 14.1 xga screen's.
What is the value of a 1400x1050 lcd panel?Something tells me it's alot.

It seems that a lot of people are missing the fact that I live in Europe, what's worse - in Serbia, where most prices are surreal compared to western ones :)
But fear not! I've done my research at eBay, and the prices for sxga+ screens are about 90-120+ USD. You are right about the conversion - all you need is an LCD panel and appropriate flat cable. It would be much easier if you find the complete display (with plastic lid), and from what I've seen those are even cheaper. The reason is that they are much easier to switch.
All you need to do is download the hardware reference manual for T2x laptops, see what FRU is sxga+ screen, and search ebay for that.
Have fun...
