Reinstall BIOS when removing a 1802-01c9 wifi-card?
I have removed the Atheros wifi-card from my T23 (see sig) and want to put in the Intel wifi/modem-card from my T30.
The Atheros card caused the 1802 error in the T23, which was then patched with No-1802.
After the boot-error 01c9 of 2 ethernet cards, I used to press Esc and the T23 booted up without any problems and everything was fine.
I have now also uninstalled all the Atheros stuff from Windows XP.
Q: Before I put the Intel card in my T23, do I need to reset the BIOS because of this 1802-patch, or can I happily ignore that?
The Intel card is:
IBM ThinkPad High Rate Wireless Mini PCI Card w/Modem 802.11b WIFI P/N 26P8519 / FRU 26P8520

As it happened, there was a newer T23 BIOS version available, so I D/L'd and installed that. Problem was moot in that case.
Thanks for the info anyway.

I understood that the no-1802 de-activates the whitelist which is in the BIOS.
That 01c9 only works on Atheros chipsets up to 5004, mine has a 5006.
I have no problem hitting Esc at boot time.
The chip that other people have 'clipped' on different Atheros models is not accessible on my card. There is a metal cover soldered all around it (and other components).

You're getting me confused now, AFAIK the BIOS is stored on and the sole occupant of the CMOS, different names for the same thing.
So no-1802 affects the BIOS (and with it the CMOS).
Anyway, the transplant went without any hiccups.
After having to apply No-1802, the Atheros card now works perfectly in the T30 (though still with 01c9-Esc at boot).
That Intel card is rubbish by the way, it only allows WEP security, no WPA. I'll get another card for the T23 eventually.
Until then I'll use my trusted 802.11b/g PC-card.
