Trackpoint Problem

#1 Post by SaderBiscut » Wed Mar 07, 2007 8:10 pm

Today I got a new motherboard for my T23, which fixed a number of problems such as it's inablity to boot (no post, fan pulsing) and before that, the unablity to use the battery.

Now it works fine, except the computer no longer reconizes my trackpoint. The trackpoint and it's buttons do not work, and as far as I can tell, the computer isn't even aware they exist. They don't show up in the device manager or anything.

Oddly enough the keyboard works fine, I'm typing this message on it.

I am going to try launching Knoppix and see it that sees the mouse, but until then, any ideas?

I can't remember off the top of my head, if it is even an option on the T23, but you might want to check your BIOS/CMOS settings to see if the trackpoint has been disabled.

I know it's enabled in atleast one Bios option, only one I found relating to trackpoint.

And it didn't work in Knoppix either.

Ok, try removing the keyboard and reseating the connector. It might not be properly seated.

even though you may of set the trackpoint on in the BIOS, Windows can override those settings. Make sure you have Thinkpad Configuration installed and the trackpoint driver. The BIOS settings should then be reflected in Windows. If you still have the problem, uninstall the drivers, restart the computer and then reinstall the trackpoint driver. If that doesn't work, it may be a problem with the motherboard regarding the PS/2 port or the keyboard.
I have finally rejoined the dark side.

The problem there, is that the OP stated that it didn't work in Linux either.

@tfflivemb2
I've tried that twice so far (with the intent of making sure the connector was connected) and it hasn't done anything.

I know this trackpoint did work, as it worked fine before my laptop died before.

@Stargate
I don't think that's the problem, it didn't work in Knoppix either, and where would I install the drivers too? It's not even listing it in device manager.

Do you have access to a spare keyboard? It could be that the trackpoint died.

Also, since your original system board died, do you still have that board? Interested in getting rid of it?

Try PC Doctor and see if that diagnostic program can see the "mouse". Listed under the "Interactive" menu, I believe. Actually, if you can use the trackpoint to select any of the tests you've already verified that it's working.

I believe PC Doctor boots into a PC-DOS environment and loads generic mouse drivers. If it doesn't work, then either something got fried on the keyboard (bent or broken pin in the connector) or something in BIOS is killing it.

I don't have any need for the system board, I'll trade it + CPU (1.13Ghz) for a new keyboard.

I have a bunch of spare parts as well if your intrested.

And I don't have a Diskdrive, or any or the origonal disks, is there an *.iso version of PC-Doctor I could burn or something?
