Vibrating DVD/CD Drive

#1 Post by SaderBiscut » Fri Mar 09, 2007 1:48 am

Sometimes my CD/DVD drive in my T23 goes to such a speed that the drive bezel starts vibrating and it makes a really annoying / loud buzzing noise unless I hold it with my finger.

Does anyone know a fix for this?

you may have a screw loose

i know that it sounds like im insulting you but your problem might be just a few screws loose that hold your bezel down. have you checked that out ?

Enter the Bios setup by pressing F1 during the startup at the IBM screen. I think it's Power, look for something to adjust the CD-Drive speed. Choose "Silent." You lose some performance, apparently, but I've never noticed much drop. I had this same problem too.

You don't happen to use small stick on labels do you ? that could unbalance the CD itself.

I installed printmaster 12 and all the art discs to my USB Harddrive attached to my thinkpad the install is about 3 gigs, which would take up a lot of space on my 20 gig drive, I then plugged the USB Drive into my main computer and burned the installed DIR to a DVD, I setup my DVD drive on my laptop to the same drive letter that the installed printmaster was on, and I can run it from the DVD drive no problem. Why am I saying all this?
My drive does the vibrating thing when ever I load the program from the DVD Drive.

I say try the bios speed thing, or just leave it.

I'll try limiting the drive speed, thanks.

And no, this was playing a Law and Order Season 1 disk in almost perfect condition.
