Any real difference between 1.13ghz and a 1.2ghz in T23?
Might go through an upgrade. P3M naturally, given the chassis.
The 1.2 would be new, presumably, and the 1.13 (that's in the machine now) has been in there since birth (presumably 2001 or so).
Is there any real difference other than pride in knowing my processor is the technical knock out?
Thanks a bunch.

Hmm... I don't know if I should be answering this but here goes...
I believe both are of the Tualatin design so realistically you're only talking about a 6% increase in speed. You probably won't notice any difference. That said, I did a similar swap to what you are thinking about because I had a spare 1.2 sitting around. However in my case I replaced a 1Ghz CPU with the 1.2Ghz (a 20% increase). While I did not do any benchmarking tests, from what I remember the system seems to run a little quicker.
According to what I have just found in the Hardware Maintenance Manual, it seems like some, but not all, of the 1.2Ghz systems are supposed to be used with a specific motherboard. All of the rest of the systems use a different motherboard. I don't know why this is so. I did my swap without knowing this information. CPU swaps are not my area of expertise
.
However, I have not noticed any problems with this system. In fact, it's the one to which I recently added the internal wireless. CPU temps are running around 60c right now while downloading a couple of updates. It doesn't seem to be running any hotter than a natural 1.2Ghz system.
If you can get one for cheap, then it's probably worth it. By cheap, I mean for around $15 or so. That's my current target price

Looking at the X30 Hardware Maintenance Manual, it looks like the CPU is soldered directly to the motherboard. So, no, the SL5CL (1.2Ghz PGA CPU) will not fit into the X30.

I once owned a 1.2GHz T23 with an SXGA+ screen, a built-in wireless card and Secure Chip, and it felt great to know that I had a T23 with the best possible specs. Had it been 1.13GHz, it wouldn't have felt as good even though there's really no real-life difference between them!dsigma6 wrote:I didn't notice a difference from 1.13 to 1.2 (and didn't expect to). It just felt nice having the "good" CPU.
Anyway, some people think that it's not worth upgrading a CPU unless it increases the clock speed two-fold or more. I agree, because I upgraded a Dell desktop computer from 600MHz to 1GHz and the difference was quite subtle.

You have just described my 2647-HNU! You didn't sell it with a busted keyboard and a couple of missing internal parts, huh?pianowizard wrote:I once owned a 1.2GHz T23 with an SXGA+ screen, a built-in wireless card and Secure Chip, and it felt great to know that I had a T23 with the best possible specs.
Although I know it won't really make any appreciable difference, I've been looking into upgrading some of the T23s currently in the stable to 1.2Ghz. Most are 1.13Ghz, although I do have one 866Mhz and one 1Ghz system that might benefit. Does anyone know if there's a problem with dropping a 1.2Ghz CPU into an 866 system?
