connecting an usb hub on a usb 2.0 PCMCIA card

#1 Post by mauro » Wed Apr 04, 2007 5:29 am

I need to use on my T30 various external 2.5'' HDD which have to be powered by the USB port.

I have a PCMCIA card with 2 USB 2.0 port. These ports don't give sufficient power so I'm wondering if could be a good idea to buy a *powered* USB 2.0 hub and to connect it to one of the USB 2.0 ports on the PCMCIA.

Any similar experiences? possible problems?

Thanks

I'd expect it to work fine.

Out of curiousity, most of the USB cardbus adapters that I've seen have a port for an external power supply (usually located between the two USB ports). If so, a 5V DC adapter with tip positive and at least 1a (1000ma) output should also work to give you a powered USB 2.0 port.

I've tried it.
The hub works fine and, moreover, my old T30 with the HD replacement (Hitachi 7k100) suggested by this forum is a jewel!! 8)
