T23 buzzing screen

#1 Post by alagregg » Sun Apr 08, 2007 1:11 am

my SXGA+ screen on my T23 buzzes when i reduce the brightness on it. At maximum brightness it makes no sound (at least i can't hear one). the buzzing comes from the inverter area, so am am assuming it is this.

i have a spare inverter from an XGA T23, are these the same and is it worth swapping them?. Just wondering if anyone has any expierence with such issues.

i am tempted not to bother doing anything as i would rather use the screen at full brightness anyway. However if the inverter is going iffy i maybe it should be replaced to protect my backlight.

My T23 SXGA+ system seems to sing from the CPU area. There's an inductor that's located just above it (towards the back of the system) and I'm pretty sure that's the source of the high-pitched whine.

Yes, the inverter can also make this noise and the ones for the XGA screens can also be used on the SXGA+s. FRU is 10L1402.

cool thanks for the info.

i know the sound (in my case) is definately from the screen, as when i apply gentle pressure to where the inverter is, the sound stops.

I don't believe that the noise is indicative of impending failure (of the inverter or the backlight). However, if it continues to bother you, then simply try re-seating all of the electrical connections. Remove the entire inverter board from the small ribbon cable it is attached to. Then un-plug the connector at the right end of the inverter board which goes to the backlight. Re-assemble in reverse order, taking care to route backlight wires so that they don't get pinched by the LCD bezel. It's also good practice if you intend on replacing the board in the future.
