Will a celeron 100mhz chip work in a t20, 21, 22?

Just curious.
T20, T21, T23, R30, R31

If that chip is pin-compatible, you could give it a try. Make sure to use thermal paste when you re-install the cooler on the CPU.
Because of the smaller internal cache, that Celeron probably will not show much, if any, improvement.
Why would you downgrade to 100Mhz, or is that a typo for 1000Mhz?
Some T22 models came with a 1Ghz/1000Mhz chip.

That's the Front Side Bus frequency.

Yeah, unless you can get a 1.4GHz 100MHz FSB Celeron, it would probably be a downgrade from the original PIII instead of upgrade as explained by realblackstuff.

Just as a follow up, i tried a 550 celeron SL3ZF i had

lying around, and yes it worked in the T20.

Even came up in the bios as a[ you guessed it], a 550 celeron.
