CCFL or inverter

#1 Post by attitude » Fri Apr 13, 2007 5:37 am

Hello all, awsome community ;)
I've searched and read a lot of posts, but if you don't mind, I would like to ask before I do something wrong.
I have T23, with 1024x768 display that have a problem. The first symthoms were red shadows in the corner of display during the first minutes of running. A few months after that, display startd to flicker. it flicker for a 10 minutes for example, and then goes back in good condition. After that flickers again... That lasted two weeks, and two days ago it turned off blacklight. I see picture on display, but there is no backlight. Usterday it started working again, it the same style as before (flicker-works-flicker-works). He will turn off light soon I assume, so I need to type fast :)

As I looked around, problem might be inverter and CCFL. I think that it is CCLF, since it is acting like ordinary neon light :) Anyway, any comment would be apritiated, since it is kind a hard to get anything shiped to Serbia, so I want to orger right thing... Thanks in advance ;)

Since you dealt with the red tint for so long, I am 99.9% sure that you are looking at the backlight (CCFL). The symptoms of a failing inverter can be a sudden lack of illumination of the CCFL, intermittent lighting of the CCFL and flickering of the CCFL. Again, since you had the red tint problem for so long, I wouldn't even bother with changing the inverter.

Your options are:
1. Replace the CCFL (Cost = about $20 shipped in the US, not sure about Serbia)
2. Replace the entire LCD. (Cost = depends on location)

I would recommend the entire LCD, unless you are very handy, because te CCFL replacement process is a nightmare. I tried 3 times and broke the replacement CCFL each time.

I am also betting my money that it is a bad CCFL tube. I recommend replacing the LCD as whole as it is 100 times easier than trying to replace the CCFL tube.
I have finally rejoined the dark side.

I've checked today, and both things are not working. As the man who I tried new display with said, and it has sense, CCFL was not ok, and then inverter died also, because of problems with light.
I will try to replace inverter and CCFL, better said, the servicer will do :) Thanks for help, I will report about resoults. Hope that my expirience will help someone :)
