Audio driver for Windows XP SP2

#1 Post by MEBH » Mon Apr 16, 2007 6:52 am

Hi there,

Can it really be true that no audio driver exists for the audio chip(CS4299-JQ aka Crystal SoundFusion) in my T23 for Windows XP Pro SP2?

I installed my T23 with Windows XP SP1 and everything worked perfect including the audio part. After having upgraded til SP2, there's an exclamation mark to the left of the Audio part in Device Manager and status says "Could not start device (code 10)?

I've downloaded every possible driver, from Lenovo's site, from DriverGuide.Com, etc. and nothing can make it work! :(

Does anybody out there have a working T23 with Windows XP Pro SP2 installed AND audio streaming out loud? :)

P.S: I know its and old laptop, but I love it and its very usefull to me!

Hi MEBH and welcome to the forum,

to answer your question, I do have an T23 (2647-9LG) with SP2 and everything works fine.

In Systeminformation it states the following:

Name Crystal WDM Audio Codec
Hersteller Cirrus Logic, Inc.
Status OK
PNP-Gerätekennung PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2485&SUBSYS_02221014&REV_01\3&61AAA01&0&FD
E/A-Port 0x0000F800-0x0000F8FF
E/A-Port 0x0000FB40-0x0000FB7F
IRQ-Kanal IRQ 11
Treiber c:\windows\system32\drivers\cwawdm.sys (6.13.10.4102, 55,88 KB (57.216 Bytes), 13.09.2006 21:51)

If I remember rightly, in order to install XP and save time downloading drivers and everything, I used T40 recovery CDs. The only drivers I remember having to update were for the network cards.

To get things going, you also need to load the T23 Intel-chipset drivers from the IBM/Lenovo website. Then reinstall/update the audio.

Hi guys,

RealBlackStuff - I downloaded the Windows XP supplement files for T23 and installed as stated on the Lenovo site - is that the files you were talking about?

andyP - You used T40 recovery CD's for your T23??? The thing is; my T23 is borrowed as-is from my workplace - that means the T23 came as-is, no CD's, no nothing, it even is protected by a supervisor password in BIOS!

So for both of you; thanks for your help so far though my problem is still unresolved and still is a mystery to me! :(

Maybe I should just try and re-install Windows XP Pro SP1, check audio is okay and then upgrade to SP2 - to see if it's there the problem relies!

andyP - you shouldn't by any chance have the T40 Recovery CDs lying around?

You'll find all the drivers for your T23 here:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-57669

Look under 'Audio' and 'System Utilities'.

I was a bit hasty with the Intel Chipset drivers. These do NOT exist for a T23, sorry.

The thing is; Intel chipset fixes exists for the T23, but you have to go around the T30 drivers page to pick'em up! :)

But that didn't help much either... So the big question here is; does my audio chip work or is it broke - I don't think so!

But to make sure that's not the case, I'll run a LiveCD Knoppix tonight and make sure it can figure out my audio chip and play some sounds! :)

andyP - more like if you would be able to dump the CD to an ISO file and upload it to my FTP site? :)

Have you tried PC Doctor for the T23?

@ MEBH

I've tried to reproduce your problem today, but unfortunately I couldn't.
I recovered my T23 to XP with SP1 and only the wlan driver was missing. Sound worked fine. I then installed SP2, no problems. I think maybe your idea from above is maybe not a bad idea.
Maybe I should just try and re-install Windows XP Pro SP1, check audio is okay and then upgrade to SP2 - to see if it's there the problem relies!

Yeah, it looks like everything should work out of the box and maybe my audio chip is toasted! :(

But anyways... Now I have a confirmation that audio on the T23 goes along with Windows XP SP2 without problems - thx to both of you for contributing to solve my problem! :)
